World Cup Winners Lose Again

News

It looks like winning the Rugby World Cup is a bit of a curse for teams. For example, look at England after they won - they were unable to do anything worthwhile since, and got progressively worse for quite a long time. They managed to pull something out of the bag to get to the latest World Cup final, but they never looked like beating South Africa.

Now however, it is South Africa’s turn to start losing. They have now lost 3 trinations matches in a row, including their latest game - a 15 - 27 loss to Australia. Even more alarming, South Africa lost at home, where Australia hadn’t won since 2000. South Africa have no chance of winning the trinations now, with Australia and New Zealand playing a winner takes all decider in Brisbane on the 13th of September.

The only recent victory of any note was when they played Argentina and beat them 63 - 9, which isn’t an international score you expect to se that often, especially with all the improvements that Argentina have made over the past few years.

What is more interesting, is that South Africa got rid of their coach after they won the World Cup, and so now the new coach, Peter de Villiers, is under a lot of pressure to get South Africa back to their winning ways.
