Welsh Regions Do Badly At Sevens

Both the Ospreys and the Dragons entered teams in this years Middlesex Sevens, and both failed at the first hurdle.

The Middlesex Sevens is a charity tournament that has been going for 82 years. This year it involved a team from every premiership side, as well as the British Army, Leeds Carnegie, the Ospreys and the Dragons.

Both the Ospreys and the Dragons lost in their first round matches, with the Ospreys losing 27-5 to Sale, and the Dragons losing 28-19 to London Irish. Harlequins beating the British Army in the final to win the tournament for the first time since the early nineties, in fact 1990 if I remember correctly!

As well as this, they also lost in the Plate competition, with the Ospreys losing 33-17 to Leeds and the Dragons losing 29-24 to Northampton.

You must remember that sevens is never a true indication of a teams strength, as evidenced by the fact that England’s sevens team is almost always entirely different to their full team, so I would say that this tournament will not have any relation to the results of other games this season.
