Welsh Hooker Hibbard To Miss Start Of Season
Richard Hibbard, 24, who plays for the Ospreys and Wales as hooker has gone in for surgery on an injury to his right shoulder that had been bothering him since Wales’ tour to Australia. It means that he will miss the first few weeks of the season as recuperates and gets back to full fitness.
After the Australian tour, he returned to preseason training with the Ospreys, only to keep on receiving pain in the shoulder. It was decided that it should be operated on as soon as possible, instead of continuing to train and risk causing worse damage to the shoulder.
The Ospreys’ physio Chris Towers says that:
“It’s too early to say an exact date for when we can expect Richard back but he’ll miss the start of the season,”
The Ospreys first game is the 5th of September, so he will definitely miss that unless he has Wolverinesque healing abilities, but the next Wales game is against South Africa on the 8th of November, which, depending on how his fitness regime has progressed, he should definitely be available for.
Injuries can ruin a career if not taken care of, so it is good to see that the Ospreys and Hibbard have taken the sensible route, even if it does mean he will miss some games.
