Richie McCaw Delays Comeback - still injured
New Zealand captain Richie McCaw will not play in Saturday’s Tri-Nations match against Australia, as he has not recovered sufficiently from an ankle injury that he sustained against England. It was hoped that he would have managed to overcome the injury and was named in provisional lineups for the game on Saturday. However it was decided by the New Zealand medical team that the ankle had not healed as quickly as they would have liked, and so McCaw must wait a while longer before playing again.
McCaw had returned to training on Monday, which lead many to believe he would be playing this weekend. Now that he is definitely not playing, it is expected that he will now delay his return until next week’s Bledisloe Cup fixture in Auckland.
Starting instead of McCaw will be Daniel Braid. There are also a wealth of other changes to the New Zealand side, with 5 players, including Braid starting, who didn’t in the last match, which was a defeat to South Africa.
